U.S. President Joe Biden has said the COVID-19 pandemic is over, but the White House has said there are no plans to lift a public health emergency in response to the coronavirus.

A White House official told CNN on the 19th (local time) that "the president's remarks do not imply a change in the government's policy on the issue of responding to the virus" and "there are no plans to lift the public health emergency."

President Biden appeared on CBS the day before and said, "The pandemic is over."

Analysts say it is meant to emphasize that progress has been made in the fight against Corona ahead of the midterm elections in November.

Since the United States declared a public health emergency in January 2020 as a response to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been extended in 90-day increments.

The public health emergency has become the basis for providing free COVID-19 tests, vaccines, and treatments to the public.
