A cleaning worker in Cangas has become a local hero after returning a bag with more than 11,000 euros in envelopes inside.

"That easy money would bring bad luck," he explains to

Faro de Vigo

, which tells his story.

Víctor Montes Pardo, a 57-year-old resident of Cangas de Morrazo, found the money on a bench in Plaza do Concello.

In each envelope there was around 1,000 euros in 50 bills. He handed it over immediately and a few minutes later the owner appeared: a 76-year-old woman from Vigo.

The woman came to report the disappearance of the bag that contained, according to her, the savings of a lifetime.

After verifying that it did indeed belong to her, the police returned the bag to the woman.

"Money that comes to you easily, you have to be careful with it. I believe a lot in those things of bad luck. Maybe I open my bag, find the money and take it and then I get hit by a car or I get an illness" , has declared to the Galician newspaper.
