The Palestinian security forces arrested Musab Shtayyeh, 30, a leader in the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and the wanted man of the Israeli occupation forces.

Shtayyeh was arrested after a vehicle he was traveling in was cordoned off in the Faisal Street area, east of Nablus, shortly before 10 o'clock before midnight this night, and another wanted man named Amid Tabila was arrested with him.

Al Jazeera Net learned from sources close to Shtayyeh's family that the security forces told them that Shtayyeh was in custody, and that he had been transferred to the Al-Junaid prison of the Palestinian security in the city, where arrangements are underway for the family's visit to the detainee.

Immediately after Shtayyeh's arrest, resistance groups in the old city of Nablus, known as "The Lions' Den", gathered at the Martyrs' Roundabout in the city center to denounce his arrest, at a time when rubber tires were set on fire and heavy fires were fired to refuse the arrest.

Some also conveyed threats from the armed resistance fighters carrying the message that "the security headquarters of the authority in Nablus will be targeted" unless Shtayyeh is released, while armed resistance fighters in Jenin went out in a military parade, in a message protesting the arrest.

Who is Mosab Shtayyeh?

Musab Shtayyeh hails from Salem village, east of Nablus. He holds a high school diploma. The Israeli occupation has pursued him directly and publicly since the beginning of last April, as he is accused of targeting the occupation forces and settlers with shooting, injuring one of them.

Shtayyeh, who suffers from "cardiac weakness" and "hyperthyroidism", according to sources, was expelled after the occupation arrested his two brothers, Anas and Khaled, and raided their home more than once, violently searched it, assaulted his relatives several times, and conducted field investigations with them. to find out where it is.

Later, Musab Shtayyeh arrived in the old city of Nablus, and he and other colleagues were expelled, especially the martyr Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, who is considered the closest and most closely related to Shtayyeh.

Shtayyeh, the stalker, appeared on July 24, when Israel assassinated his two friends, Abd al-Rahman Subuh and Muhammad al-Azizi, who were martyred to secure his withdrawal and his companions, who were chased from the Yasmina neighborhood in the old city of Nablus, according to what was reported by various media outlets at the time.

Israel accuses Shtayyeh - according to media reports it previously published, which classifies him as the most prominent commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades in the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank - of being the "most dangerous stalker" of the occupation army, and that he is working to form resistance cells in the old city of Nablus to resist the occupation.

Several weeks ago, Israel raised the pace of its threats and incitement against the Palestinian Authority, accusing it of failing to play its role in pursuing wanted persons, especially in the cities of Nablus and Jenin.
