• Farewell The Kings Don Felipe and Doña Letizia pay their respects before the coffin of Isabel II

  • The death of Elizabeth II brings together the four Kings in London

The funeral for Isabel II has managed to bring together for the first time in public the four Kings of Spain in a historical moment that has not been repeated since

January 2020,

when they attended the funeral of the Infanta Doña Pilar.

Don Felipe and Doña Letizia occupy, together with Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, a place reserved for the royal houses that have moved to London to attend the funeral.

They are

in the second row,

behind Margaret of Denmark and her son, Federico;

Carlos Gustavo and Silvia from Sweden and Guillermo and Máxima from the Netherlands, who also share a row with Princess Beatriz.

Thus, as established by protocol, Doña Letizia heads the second row, followed by Felipe VI, Doña Letizia and Don Juan Carlos, who

wears the golden fleece,

Spain's highest decoration.

This is the first image of the four Kings together, because although they arrived in London at the same time, until now there had been no

meeting

in a place with cameras.

On Sunday, Don Felipe, Doña Letizia and Doña Sofía arrived in London on a Spanish Air Force plane while Don Juan Carlos landed in the British capital on a direct flight from Abu Dhabi.

The Emeritus met with his wife in a hotel, while Don Felipe and Doña Letizia headed for the Spanish Embassy, where they are staying these days for logistical reasons.

Next, the King and his consort moved to Westminster Hall to pay tribute to Elizabeth II.

They were accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, his Chief of Protocol and the Spanish Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

A few hours later they went to Buckingham Palace for

the reception

offered by Carlos III to several hundred leaders.

They arrived there in a different bus than the one that drove Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, so an image of the four Kings could not be captured and there is no graphic record of their meeting inside the palace.
