Chen Guochang, director of the Earthquake Prediction Center of the Taiwan Meteorological Department, said that the earthquake was the main shock, and that the earthquake last night was a foreshock.
A 7-11 building in Yuli Township, Hualien collapsed, and police said casualties were unknown.

According to information from the Taiwan Meteorological Department, 20 earthquakes occurred in Taitung from 9:41 p.m. to 11:33 p.m. on the 17th, all of which were shallow earthquakes.
According to the observation of the Taiwan Meteorological Department, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 occurred in Taitung at 2:44 pm. The epicenter was Chishang, Taitung. The earthquake intensity reached 6 in Chishang, Taitung, 6 in Hualien Yuli, 5 in Nantou Yushan, Taitung City, Chishang County, Kaohsiung City, Tainan City, Yunlin County, Nantou County, Tainan City, Changhua County, Chiayi County, Taichung City, Hualien County, New Taipei City, Yilan County, etc. all reached Level 4.
Chen Guochang said that the earthquake was the main shock, including the earthquake last night and those originally predicted as aftershocks, which belonged to the foreshocks of this earthquake.
At present, the building of a 7-11 convenience store in Yuli, Hualien has collapsed. The police said that the casualties are unknown and rescue is underway. The building is located in the second section of Zhongshan Road, Yuli Town, Hualien County. Someone in the house is currently rescued.
Regarding Taiwan Railway, according to the report, at 2:47 p.m., Dongli Station collapsed to 420 times due to platform collapse (diesel-electric self-improvement).
