On the 17th, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura attended a meeting of economic ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and expressed his intention to strengthen economic cooperation.


As the United States seeks to expand its influence over Southeast Asian countries with China in mind, Japan is also aiming to further deepen its relationship.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura attended a series of meetings of ASEAN economic ministers held in Cambodia on the 17th.



In an interview after the conference, Minister Nishimura said, "Japan and ASEAN companies are working together to solve social issues using digital technology. He expressed his desire to further strengthen support." He expressed his intention to strengthen cooperation in



Minister Nishimura will also attend a meeting with ASEAN countries on the 18th, and will propose a new economic cooperation project that incorporates supply chains using digital technology.



With regard to ASEAN, the United States is trying to expand its influence over Southeast Asian countries, such as by taking the lead in negotiations for a new economic partnership framework that includes Japan in the Indo-Pacific region with China in mind.



Under these circumstances, Japan also aims to further strengthen its economic cooperation with ASEAN and further deepen its relationship.
