This morning's attack by a man armed with a knife against two police officers took place in central London around 6 am, while in the capital there are extensive security measures for Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

"Two officers were stabbed and hospitalized, a man was arrested on suspicion of" attacking a paramedic "in Leicester Square, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

According to Sky news reports, the two officers were hospitalized and the attacker was arrested on suspicion of causing serious personal injury.

At the moment the health conditions of the two injured are not known, but an investigation has been opened on what happened.

"Absolutely scary" is the comment of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

"These brave officers were doing their duty and assisting the public at this important moment for our country," said the mayor.

"We owe them a huge debt of gratitude."

Khan also said he is in close contact with the new Met Police commander, Mark Rowley.

While investigations are underway to shed full light on the matter, it is known that the police used the taser to defend themselves and the suspect was hospitalized.

According to the first reconstruction, the agents had intervened to stop the man, perhaps in the throes of a raptus.

The London Metropolitan Police made it clear that the incident did not take place near any memorial site for Queen Elizabeth.

These days London is flooded with mourners who are lining up to pay their last respects to the Queen and have placed flowers, letters and other objects in various parks and other areas of the city in memory of the sovereign, who passed away on 8 September in 96 years old.
