The right-wing bloc with the Moderates, the Christian Democrats, the Sweden Democrats and the Liberals won the 2022 election with 176 seats against Magdalena Andersson's government foundation which received 173 seats.

It was clear during Wednesday evening after the so-called Wednesday votes had been counted.

The result means that M leader Ulf Kristersson is given the opportunity to form a new government - and can thus also become Sweden's next prime minister.

On Wednesday evening, the party's party secretary Gunnar Strömmer stated that the Murderers want to form a government with other bourgeois parties - at the same time they are expected to cooperate with the Sweden Democrats in the Riksdag.

"Thank you for the trust - now we will get Sweden in order!"

wrote Ulf Kristersson on his Instagram account during the evening.

Before Wednesday evening, the Sweden Democrats were the second largest party.

A result that stood up after Wednesday's count.

"Now the work begins to make Sweden good again," wrote SD's party leader Jimmie Åkesson in a post on Facebook.

Unsure until the end

Since Sunday's election night, the position between the bloc has been even.

Only one mandate separated the various government documents for a long time.

During Wednesday evening, however, the right-wing bloc extended its lead by one mandate – a lead that lasted until the end.

As a reaction to the result, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson chose to call a press conference where she announced her resignation as Prime Minister.

- Tomorrow I will request my dismissal, she said.

She went on to say that she intended to lead a transitional government until the point Kristersson possibly formed a new government - and then go into opposition.

Although the Social Democrats lost government power, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson emphasized during her press conference that the Social Democrats did well in the election and increased.

- We Social Democrats have made a strong choice with a strong result, Andersson said.
