The board of directors of the IAEA = International Atomic Energy Agency adopted a resolution calling on Russia to stop occupying nuclear power plants over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, where shelling continues and concerns about safety are spreading.

The IAEA board meeting held in Austria from the 12th of this month held a discussion on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in the southeastern part of Ukraine on the 15th.

Among them, a resolution was submitted to condemn the occupation of nuclear power plants by Russia and to call on Russia to stop the occupation in order to return control to Ukraine.

The meeting was closed to the public, but according to Reuters, of the 35 member states, Russia and China opposed the resolution, and seven countries from Asia and Africa abstained, but the resolution passed with a majority.

In response, the Russian delegation released a statement, arguing that the resolution did not mention the main issue, the shelling, and that the shelling was carried out by Ukraine.

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant has spread safety concerns such as temporarily losing external power due to successive shelling, and the IAEA is proposing to set the area around the nuclear power plant as a safe area.

IAEA Director-General Grossi said that although the bombardment has stopped at and around the nuclear power plant recently, he is concerned that the bombardment continues in a wider area, and ensuring safety continues to be an issue. .
