Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II last Thursday, tributes have multiplied in the United Kingdom and abroad.

The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II arrived at Westminster Hall on Wednesday evening and since then the queue to pray for the sovereign has grown and stretched for miles.

The images are impressive: tens of thousands of English people line up for hours to gather in front of the coffin of Elizabeth II arrived in London.

"It was wonderful"

These privileged people were able to pay a final tribute to the sovereign.

On site, a grandfather wearing a military beret, sporting many medals, holding the hand of his nine-year-old grandson.

But also John, 40, a London laborer who bowed to the coffin wrapped in the royal standard.

"It was much more moving and solemn than I expected. I thought it would be quick and I wouldn't necessarily feel anything but no, it was beautiful. The Queen was a symbol of our country these last few years," he said.

An emotion also felt by Mathilde, a young Belgian woman who lives in London.

"I've been queuing since 5am. Once I got back into the Westminster lobby it was almost heavenly, silly to say but my heart stopped beating. It's a moment in history and I'm really happy. It's very impressive, the guard around is frozen like a puppet", she describes.

This crowd of anonymous, come to pay this last tribute to the queen, is guided by dozens of stewards dressed in yellow vests in an impressive calm.
