At the beginning of 2020, Uppdrag gränskning published a report about Robin.

He was kept locked up without legal support in Gnosjö municipality's purpose-built accommodation.

After the review, Robin's sister Jessica moved him to a croft on her own land in Gislaved, a temporary solution until better accommodation could be arranged.

A year and a half later, Robin was found dead.

Now Mission review can tell what happened during his last time in life.

“Cries for help”

When Robin moved to the croft, Jessica's husband Peter became trustee and an assistance coordinator was hired to look after Robin.

But already in the first summer, the family appealed to the new home municipality of Gislaved for help in finding a new place to live.

- The family has been crying out for help for a very long time.

They have searched hysterically, I could almost say, with lanterns and candles to find other solutions, says Susanne Jessen, supervisor of the staff who worked with Robin.

Worry: That Robin would be locked up again

Robin was offered a group home, but the family declined because it would mean Robin losing his personal assistance.

Even when Robin was offered regular accommodation, it was turned down.

Peter and Jessica thought that the house was on a busy street and that it could be a danger for Robin.

Their biggest worry was, according to the family themselves, that Robin would be locked up again.

- We never intended to lock Robin in with those offers, says Susanne Olsen, social manager in Gislaved municipality.

But if there is a street with buses and trucks right outside?

- If we had had more than five weeks, we probably would have found a good solution for Robin.

Didn't see a doctor

When Robin moved to the croft, Jessica and Peter wanted to reduce his medication.

In consultation with doctors, a tapering took place, which initially seemed to have positive effects, but after a while, staff raised the alarm that he seemed to be getting worse and worse.

Yet Robin, in his last year of life, never saw a doctor.

During the summer, Robin repeatedly injured himself and staff.

- I am so convinced that he could not control that impulse, it was not on purpose.

He usually had very strong anxiety after such incidents, says one of the staff.

In October, the family handed over the assistance task to the municipality as they were unable to find competent staff who could take care of Robin.

But the situation in the croft worsened.

During Robin's final days in life, the staff reported an average of two incidents per day.

Police were called

Three days before Robin was found dead, three people from the workforce called themselves sick.

When Robin had two days left to live, the police were called to the croft.

Robin had had severe anxiety, in connection with that one of the staff had been beaten.

Robin had been granted double assistance, meaning there would always be two people around him when he was awake.

But the same day the municipality called Peter and announced that there was no one more to deposit.

Peter and Jessica, who were also employed as assistants, were ordered in to handle the situation themselves.

Several people close to the family then alerted the municipality that the family was alone, but nothing happened.

Sentenced to prison

The municipality considered that the situation was unsustainable.

They wanted the board of superintendents to review the matter.

With a trustee other than Peter, Robin could be moved.

- When the police and ambulance were called, he was very concerned about this and told me several times "it won't go backwards", Jessica told me later in the interrogation.

In November 2021, Jessica gave her little brother a fatal dose of tramadol.

According to her, Robin chose to take the pills that ended his life, but the prosecutor argued that Robin did not understand the consequences.

The Court of Appeal sentenced Jessica to twelve years in prison for murder.

After Robin's death, the municipality received criticism from IVO, the Swedish Care and Social Care Inspectorate, for failing in its ultimate responsibility to give him the support and help he needed.
