This is bad news for many owners: this year, the property tax has increased in most French cities.

In Tours, the property tax has increased by 11.6% in one year.

An increase that can be accentuated or reduced depending on the choices made by your municipality.

In many French cities, the property tax has increased.

In Tours, the property tax has increased by 11.6% in one year, enough to make owners cringe.

"I was surprised by the amount," says Geneviève, a resident of the city for 30 years.

She is not the only one to have noticed the increase.

Teddy, owner of a two-room apartment in the city, made the bitter observation while opening his mail.

"My 2022 property tax amounts to 1,066 euros and in 2021, we were around 980 euros. So these are political choices that are made by the town hall of Tours", he regrets.

"Offer a stronger public service"

An increase of almost 100 euros that the city's finance assistant, Frédéric Miniou, tries to justify: "This effort is also there to serve the inhabitants. If the person who pays his property tax has children, he will be very happy that "they are in schools where they can benefit from the city's infrastructure. The goal is really to offer a stronger public service for all Touraine people."

No impact on the real estate market

If it irritates some owners, this increase has so far had no impact on the real estate market, notes Téophile Daniel, director of an agency in the center of Tours.

"All Tourangeaux talk about the increase in the property tax. From there to say that it will slow down sales, no, because we remain on amounts which, compared to the acquisition price, remain much lower", he argues.

Future buyers who know that the property tax also increases in other French cities: +2% on average throughout the territory.
