With the reassessment of accident risks, car insurance could tend to become more expensive for around 900,000 people in Hessen.

The General Association of the Insurance Industry (GDV) has identified higher risks for liability policies in eight registration districts.

According to a statement on Tuesday, car owners in the Groß-Gerau district, in the Lahn-Dill district, Marburg-Biedenkopf, Offenbach city and country, Schwalm-Eder district, Vogelsberg district and Waldeck-Frankenberg have slipped into significantly higher risk assessments.

Liability insurance tends to be cheaper for 300,000 car owners from Frankfurt, Wetzlar and the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district.

According to the GDV, nothing will change for the remaining 24 districts.

The decisive factor for the regional class is always the place of residence and not the registration office.

There are significantly fewer changes in the regional classes of comprehensive insurance: Here there are higher risk expectations for around 100,000 insured persons from Main-Taunus and Offenbach-Land and lower ones for 60,000 in Darmstadt.

In Hersfeld-Rotenburg, there are very few crashes, even compared to the rest of Germany, and the damage caused by the accident is not that great.

As the only registration district in Hesse, the lowest regional class 1 applies there in liability insurance. In Hesse and nationwide, on the other hand, the city of Offenbach is at the top with a particularly unfavorable claims experience.

Like the German accident capital Berlin, it is classified in the highest and most expensive regional class 12.

The exact impact on insurance premiums is uncertain as many other factors also affect it.

The regional statistics of the GDV are also non-binding for insurance companies.

It can be used immediately for new contracts and for existing contracts from the next insurance year.
