Germany and Israel want to expand their cooperation in air defense.

This was announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Israeli Prime Minister Jair Lapid after a meeting in Berlin.

Scholz specifically praised the Israeli Arrow 3 air defense system. Lapid confirmed on Monday that he and Scholz had spoken about the system.

When asked at the joint press conference whether he could already say more about agreements on the Arrow 3 system, Lapid answered "no".

However, he spoke of Israel's "absolute commitment" to Germany's security.

There is close coordination with Germany.

Scholz was asked about the discussion about the delivery of main battle tanks to Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia.

But while the traffic light coalition made corresponding demands again, Scholz did not change his line.

He merely affirmed that Germany would not go it alone.

So far, Ukraine has received "very comprehensive" military support, said the Chancellor.

Ukraine was helped in its defense efforts by the delivery of Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, self-propelled howitzers and multiple rocket launchers.

"We will continue on this path," said Scholz.

Ukraine will be supported as necessary.

Lapid praised Scholz's reaction to the statements made by Palestinian President Abbas in Berlin a few weeks ago.

It was obvious that Scholz was surprised by the statements.

"I thanked the Chancellor for reacting to what Abbas said." He thinks that Scholz said it so clearly.

Abbas had spoken of "50 massacres" by Israel in Palestinian territories and referred to them as "50 holocausts".

Scholz had condemned the statements with a slight delay after the press conference.
