• Five men accused of the murder of Dorian Guémené in July 2018 in Rennes are on appeal from this Monday before the Assize Court in Saint-Brieuc.

  • The 24-year-old bartender died after being beaten up on leaving a nightclub.

  • At first instance last year, the five defendants were sentenced to terms of eight to fifteen years in prison.

They dispute the characterization of murder and the severity of the sentences imposed at first instance.

The five men accused of having beaten Dorian Guémené to death one evening in July 2018 at the exit of a nightclub in Rennes will be tried on appeal from this Monday before the Assize Court of Côtes-d'Armor in Saint- Brieuc.

After twelve days of trial, the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court had pronounced sentences of eight to fifteen years in prison against them in October 2021. A sixth defendant prosecuted for destruction of evidence had as to him was acquitted.

The drama was tied on the night of July 6 to 7, 2018 in front of the L'Espace nightclub.

That evening, Dorian Guémené had gone to celebrate with a friend the victory of the Blues a few hours earlier against Uruguay in the World Cup.

But for a futile reason, an altercation had broken out between the two young people and a group of individuals inside the smoking room and then the bar.

A little later, a new fight had occurred at the closing of the establishment.

Its outcome had been fatal.

The defendants have repeatedly blamed each other

Beaten just like his friend by five individuals, Dorian Guémené was found lying on the ground shortly after 6 a.m., his face shattered.

“He was full of blood everywhere.

The whole head was filled with blood.

He was disfigured.

I slapped him in the face to tell him: wake up, wake up,” his friend testified during the trial.

The 24-year-old bartender will unfortunately not wake up, dying the next day at the CHU Pontchaillou.

After the violent fight, all the protagonists fled.

The six individuals were arrested a few days later and indicted for "murder with ambush" and "aggravated violence".

During the trial, the six defendants, who had changed versions several times over the course of the investigation, constantly blamed the other, each minimizing their participation.

Their appeal trial should last fifteen days.
