  • Justice The Prosecutor's Office summons six stalkers of the Canet family who asked for 25% of Spanish to testify

Until this Monday, Javier Pulido, father of the student at the Turó del Drac school in Canet de Mar who was harassed on social networks by the independence movement to claim and obtain 25% in Spanish, had maintained strict anonymity to prevent his exposure to the public opinion affected his family.

However, today he has decided to break his silence after declaring, along with his wife, as injured in the open procedure in the Barcelona Investigating Court 12 against four Twitter users who sent threatening messages against the minor.

"We have come to the court to give a statement as affected by the harassment we suffered last December," explained the father, since that is when it transpired that the school would apply the 25% ordered by the TSJC and added that they have decided "present us as an accusation particular" in the case so that "this harassment does not go unpunished.

He considers that "it is not normal" that they feel persecuted for claiming bilingualism in the classroom and believes that "people have to lose their fear to claim our rights.

"In the end this is one more case than there is and what we want is that they do not go unpunished. These things that are done on the network do not seem to hurt, but in reality they do a lot of damage. We want to pursue them so that it does not happen again times this", said the priest, who encouraged everyone to attend the demonstration next Sunday called by the Escuela de Todos in Barcelona in favor of education in Catalan and Spanish: "Courage to all those who consider that we must lose fear in the street, to say the things that one thinks and to claim their own rights".

And he has finished with a "stand up for your rights" before adding that "we are a little hurt" by the current situation in which his son has returned to receive classes in Catalan by order of the Generalitat, skipping the order of the TSJC.

The Barcelona Investigating Court number 12 is investigating a complaint by the Public Prosecutor's Office against four users of the social network Twitter who sent messages such as "non-integrated settlers and terrorists", "fascist", "they have to live a mediatic hell", or that they must "make life impossible for the family", in reference to the marriage of Canet de Mar and their 5-year-old son who requested schooling in Spanish at the Turó del Drac school.

Some of these messages can still be viewed.

The Prosecutor's Office believes that it was "a hostile response movement" by several users who "simultaneously and collectively from different parts of Catalonia, spread humiliating and hurtful expressions against the aforementioned family in their respective accounts", The four investigated are accused of a crime against fundamental rights for injuring dignity for discriminatory reasons.

Two of them did not want to testify and the other two assured that it was an exercise of freedom of expression within the political debate for the application of 25% in the classrooms and that at no time did they want to go against the family.

The complaint from the Prosecutor's Office highlights that "the current extension of new technologies at the service of communication, which the defendants used, exponentially intensifies the damage of statements or messages that, at another time, could have limited their pernicious effects to a reduced and selected group of addressees".

For this reason, it points out that with social networks the "harmful effects" of these messages "are multiplied by their massive and indiscriminate dissemination" and that "the incorporation of humiliating messages such as those published by those reported on telematic networks with a vocation for perpetuity inexorably entails the loss of control over its zigzagging diffusion" since its impact can be "multiplied" with "

The media pressure on the student's family last December made the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia urge the Minister of Education and the management of the school to adopt the necessary measures to preserve their privacy.

Today, the father has decided to stand up to claim his rights without fear.
