In the next few hours, the remains of

Hurricane Danielle

will bring the first autumn storm to the Peninsula, an Atlantic storm that will leave

abundant rains

, winds of more than 40 kilometers per hour and a

significant drop in temperatures

.

Thus, while this hurricane has now become a

tropical cyclone

that is weakening in the Atlantic, an associated front will reach the Peninsula this afternoon and, in the coming days, will cross the country from west to east, according to forecasts by the State Agency for Meteorology (Aemet).

The weather change will take place from

tomorrow

,

Monday

, a day in which abundant rainfall is expected -which will be intense and persistent in the western half and the Pyrenees- and a drop in temperatures.

Tomorrow's situation contrasts with the summer heat this weekend, which has left temperatures between 34 and 38 degrees in the peninsular half, the Ebro valley, the interior of the northern plateau and the eastern Cantabrian.

Specifically, according to the Aemet website, today

38 degrees will be reached in Vizcaya

and Álava (orange level warning), in Córdoba and the Guadalquivir valley, in Jaén, and in Valle del Tajo (Toledo). maximums of 36 degrees are expected in Guipúzcoa and Navarra, Madrid and Alcalá de Henares, the county of Treviño (Burgos), and 35 in some areas of Cantabria.

Starting tomorrow, Monday, the outlook changes and the

rainfall will be locally strong

and accompanied by storms in Galicia, the central system, Extremadura, western Andalusia, Navarra and the Pyrenees.

In the Mediterranean area, for now, there will only be intervals of medium and high clouds, as in the Canary Islands, where cloudy intervals are expected, although it is not ruled out that some weak precipitation will fall on the islands with greater relief.

Daytime

temperatures will drop

significantly in the western half of the peninsula, except in the Bay of Biscay where the drop will be less pronounced.

In addition, according to the Aemet, it is likely that a large part of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands will be affected by the haze.

The

wind

will be moderate from the south in the western half of the peninsula, from the east in the Ebro valley and the Mediterranean area, and from the northwest or west in the Canary Islands, and from a variable direction in the rest.

As of

Tuesday

,

rainfall will be widespread

, although it will be less likely in the southeast of the peninsula, the eastern Cantabrian Sea and the Balearic Islands.

The Aemet warns that they will be locally strong and with the possibility of being accompanied by a storm, especially in the south of the central system and the Pyrenees, and in some parts of Andalusia.

Daytime temperatures will drop notably in the eastern half of the peninsula, except on the Mediterranean coast, and so will night temperatures.

For

Wednesday

, it is most likely that the instability will continue to affect a good part of the Peninsula, with showers and storms more likely in the western half and the Pyrenean area, which will subside by the end of the week.

The Aemet forecasts that the greatest accumulations of precipitation will occur to the south of the

western

central system and the

Pyrenees

.

Although these rains will be very well received, Aemet forecasts suggest that

September, October and November will be drier than normal

, with a higher incidence in the west and center of the Peninsula.

Twelve days before the beginning of autumn, the situation of

meteorological drought is worsening

in almost the entire country, with the reservoirs at 35 percent of their total capacity, the worst record for these dates since 2005, and a decrease of 26 percent in the average rainfall.

In these last 17 years (2022-2005), the percentages of water reserves have ranged from the 70 percent reached in the first days of September 2013 (the best figure in said series), to the current 35 percent (the most low), according to data from the Ministry for Ecological Transition.

Last year around these dates, the reserve was at 41.5%.
