According to Papua New Guinea's "The Courier", the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that occurred on the morning of September 11 caused varying degrees of damage to Papua New Guinea's Madang Province, Eastern Highlands Province and other provinces.

  In Madang province, one person has been confirmed dead and four seriously injured after the earthquake triggered landslides that buried some villages.

In the Eastern Highlands province, the earthquake damaged local power facilities, leading to interruption of power supply in some areas. The power sector is urgently using diesel generators to supply power to key units such as hospitals.
