On Sunday, September 11, at the initiative of Paris, a telephone conversation took place between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron.

According to the Kremlin's press service, the heads of state exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP).

The Russian leader drew attention to the ongoing regular shelling of Zaporizhzhya NPP facilities by Ukrainian troops, including the fire on the storage of radioactive waste, which is fraught with catastrophic consequences.

“The President of Russia informed about the measures taken by Russian specialists to ensure the physical protection of the station and stressed the need to influence the Kyiv authorities so that the shelling of the station was immediately stopped,” the message says.

In addition, the parties expressed mutual readiness for non-politicized interaction on the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP with the participation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Earlier, the administration of the Zaporozhye region announced that on September 11 at 03:45 Moscow time the last operating power unit of the ZNPP was shut down.

As the chairman of the movement “We are with Russia” and a representative of the regional administration, Vladimir Rogov, explained, during the shelling, power lines were damaged, because of which it was necessary to constantly change the mode of operation of reactors and turbines of power units, and this is extremely harmful for equipment.

In addition, the Kyiv authorities deliberately stopped receiving the generated energy to the right bank of the Dnieper.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Rogov explained that in order to maintain technological processes, the power supply of the Zaporozhye NPP was temporarily transferred to diesel generators.

Also on russian.rt.com, the head of the IAEA called for an immediate cessation of shelling of the ZNPP territory

The politician added that the applied “cold shutdown” mode will allow restarting the ZNPP power units after the shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine ceases and the front line shifts further from the station.

“But to launch, it is necessary to turn on a large amount of equipment, which is why one of the blocks was used, among other things, to generate electricity for the needs of the station itself,” Rogov said.

In turn, the head of the military-civilian administration of Energodar, Alexander Volga, said that it was possible to restart the station within a few days.

“In itself, the launch of this power system at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is a matter of three to four days, but again (it’s not clear. -

RT

) whether it will be possible to launch it,” he said on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.

Recall that Russian troops took control of the ZNPP territory at the end of February.

In August, the station began to systematically shell the Ukrainian side.

On September 1, an IAEA delegation arrived at the ZNPP, whose representatives stated that the physical integrity of the plant had been violated as a result of the attacks.

As a result of the visit, the organization published a report on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP, without indicating the source of the shelling of the facility.

As Vladimir Putin said on September 7 during the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, this happened due to pressure on the IAEA from the United States and European countries.

“They cannot directly say that the shelling is coming from Ukrainian territory, but this is an obvious thing.

We control the station, our servicemen are stationed there.

Well, we ourselves shoot, or what?

It’s just bullshit, it’s impossible to say otherwise,” the head of state said.

The President stressed that there is no Russian military equipment on the territory of the nuclear power plant, which the IAEA experts could verify.

He also reminded that agency employees remained at the station, who can see it even now.

Meanwhile, Aleksey Likhachev, Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, said that ZNPP was the first operating nuclear power plant in history to be subjected to an armed attack.

“This is such a first experience that humanity is going through.

And it should develop some kind of immunity, in my opinion, such a defensive reaction so that nothing like this is allowed in principle, ”he said on the air of the Moscow.
