) in Latvia in social networks, organizing meaningful conversations, monitoring and evaluating the success of events in social networks, as well as taking into account and highlighting what people are talking about speak out online,” the Directorate General for Communications notes.

As conceived by the compilers, this type of activity will allow reaching a new audience and combat misinformation.

In particular, the tasks of the social media officer will include interacting with the population of Latvia in social networks and monitoring the mood of the online audience regarding various topics.

“As part of our communication actions, much attention is paid to such topics as “Green, digital, economic recovery”, “Solidarity with Ukraine”, “Vaccination”, “EU in the world,” the document specifies.

At the same time, the contractor will need to “listen” to new trends and threats appearing on the pages of the European Commission, and give recommendations on optimizing content to more effectively engage the audience in online communication.

Political scientist Ivan Mezyuho, in a conversation with RT, suggested that the initiative could be aimed at combating the Russian segment on Latvian social networks.

“It must be admitted that European structures are working quite effectively in new types of social media, and in this sense they will certainly use the existing developments in monitoring the social networks of the Latvian segment and in organizing various information campaigns in Latvian social networks in order to drown out the voice of the pro-Russian, Russian, Russian cultural the public of the Latvian state,” the expert noted.

Earlier, the European Commission answered the question about the violation of the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Latvia.
