Ukraine will lose sovereignty if it refuses to fight, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“All of us will pay a much higher price if Russia or other authoritarian regimes see their aggression being encouraged.

If Russia stops fighting, there will be peace.

If Ukraine stops fighting, it will cease to exist as an independent state.

Therefore, we must stay the course for the sake of Ukraine and ourselves,” says the head of the bloc.

He promised that the alliance would support Kyiv "in the long term" and assist in its transition from Soviet-era weapons to modern ones.

Stoltenberg also noted that at the same time, NATO is sending Moscow a "clear signal" about its readiness to defend and defend "every inch of Allied territory."

“We are significantly increasing our presence in the eastern part of the alliance, putting hundreds of thousands of troops on high alert with the support of a significant contingent of air and sea forces, and also continue to invest in advanced capabilities.

All this makes it clear that our commitment to the principles of the Fifth Article (North Atlantic Treaty.

) is unshakable, ”he said.

Recall that earlier Stoltenberg announced an increase in the number of high-readiness forces to more than 300 thousand. According to NATO, at the end of 2021, the number of rapid reaction forces was 40 thousand people.

The Pentagon clarified that during the Biden administration, the United States has already allocated $15.2 billion in assistance to Ukraine to ensure the country's security.
