His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, witnessed the signing of a strategic gas sales agreement between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Dubai Supply Authority (DOSP). ».

According to the agreement, ADNOC will supply DOSP with natural gas to be used instead of clean coal to generate electricity in the Hassyan Power Generation Complex of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority “DEWA” according to the independent product system. This step will contribute to reducing emissions from power generation operations. This supports the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and its other strategic plans aimed at generating electricity from clean energy sources.

The agreement was signed at Qasr Al Watan.. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Director General of Dubai Supply Authority, and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, at the headquarters ADNOC Group.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.H. Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and head of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, and a number of ministers and senior officials.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said, "The agreement comes in line with the vision and directives of the wise leadership to transform Dubai into a carbon neutral economy, and to provide 100% of Dubai's energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050," noting that it "enhances joint cooperation." In the field of energy between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the solid foundations that have been laid since 1998 and consolidated over the years are consolidated.

His Highness said, "At a time when some countries are turning towards the use of coal, given the geopolitical complexities and fluctuations in energy markets the world is witnessing, the UAE and Dubai continue to fulfill their obligations to reduce emissions in the energy sector."

For his part, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said that ADNOC is working to accelerate efforts to benefit from Abu Dhabi's gas resources to participate in meeting the growing global demand for it, especially as it is one of the most important types of fuel to adopt a realistic and responsible approach to keep pace with the transformation in the energy sector.

He explained that the agreement will contribute effectively to reducing emissions from the Hassyan power plant operations, which will directly support the UAE's strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. He pointed out that ADNOC is committed to continuing cooperation with its customers and strategic partners to raise its gas production capacity to achieve Its strategic objectives are to reduce emissions from energy systems, participate in enabling the country to achieve gas self-sufficiency, drive economic growth and achieve long-term sustainable value for the UAE.

ADNOC's integrated gas plan aims to link the components of the value chain to ensure the provision of sustainable and economic supplies of natural gas to meet the growing demand in the local and global markets, by expanding ADNOC's capabilities in the processing and production of liquefied natural gas.. While the plan depends on the application of new methods and technologies To enhance gas extraction from currently operating fields and produce it in large and competitive quantities, in addition to developing gas resources and taking advantage of the latest innovations to reduce emissions on an ongoing basis.

Locally produced natural gas is more commercially competitive than coal or imported gas and contributes to supporting economic growth and reducing emissions when it is used as an alternative to coal to generate electricity.

ADNOC is also a major, reliable and responsible provider of low-carbon energy. In addition to expanding its gas operations, ADNOC is developing its new energy business to take advantage of the opportunities offered by hydrogen and renewable energy sources, with a constant focus on reducing energy emissions. emissions from its operations as part of its continuous efforts to keep pace with the transformation in the energy sector to participate in meeting the global demand for energy.

From the beginning, the Hassyan Energy Complex was designed and built to be a bi-fuel power plant that works with both natural gas and clean coal, but it was recently converted to work on natural gas only.

The current production capacity of the Hassyan Power Generation Complex in Dubai is 1,200 megawatts with an independent producer system, and 600 megawatts will be added in the last quarter of this year, and another 600 megawatts during the third quarter of 2023.

The complex represents an important addition to the energy production projects of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, which includes the Jebel Ali Energy and Water Desalination Complex, Al Awir Energy Production Complex, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world according to the product system. The independent project will have a production capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030, in addition to the green hydrogen project and the hydroelectric plant project in Hatta.

Converting the Hassyan energy production complex in Dubai from clean coal to natural gas.. It contributes to reducing emissions and supports the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

ADNOC is committed to strengthening efforts to ensure optimal exploitation of Abu Dhabi's natural gas resources, given its importance during the transformation phase of the energy sector.

Locally produced natural gas is more commercially competitive than coal or imported gas and contributes to economic growth and lower emissions.

ADNOC's plan relies on applying new methods and technologies to enhance gas extraction from currently operating fields and produce it in large and competitive quantities.
