Charles is the new King of the United Kingdom.

He will be called Charles III.

Camilla will instead be the Queen consort, as announced by Buckingham Palace.

William, heir to the throne, and Kate become the Dukes of Cornwall and Cambridge, according to their official twitter account.

Charles became king immediately after Queen Elizabeth II's death, although his official coronation will not take place for some time.

A formal proclamation will be made as soon as possible, perhaps as early as tomorrow, at an ascension council at St James's Palace.

The members of the private council will be summoned, which advises the monarch on state matters.

Traditionally invited include members of the House of Lords, the mayor, aldermen and other prominent citizens of the City of London, as well as the high commissioners in London of Commonwealth member nations.

Clarence House, Charles' official residence, has confirmed that he will take the name of Charles III.

Camilla will instead be the Queen consort.

As she wanted her Majesty of her.

"The death of my beloved mother is a time of great sadness for me and for all members of my family. I know it will be deeply felt throughout the country, the kingdom, the Commonwealth and by countless people around the world. It is a comfort to her. awareness of the affection and respect felt towards the Queen ".

This is the message of Charles, the new king of the United Kingdom, at the age of 73.

Her mother was 25 when she succeeded her father George VI, who died prematurely.

After 70 years living in the shadow of the sovereign, he appeared more and more often at her side, especially after the death of his father, Prince Philip, until he read the "Speech of the Crown" in the British Parliament, called Queen's Speech in the past.

A formal act that the Queen had not lacked since 1963. Carlo always followed the celebrations for Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, also showing himself to be a loving grandfather ready to welcome his grandson Louis in his arms.

An image reconstructed step by step after years in which he had often been at the center of scandals: the marriage with Diana, the divorce and the tragic death of Lady D, beloved by her subjects, and then the love and the wedding with Camilla Parker Bowles, the controversial relationship with his son Harry.

Up to the criticism for the 'interference' in British politics or the recent ones regarding donations to his Prince's Foundation, the millions of cash received from very rich emissaries of the Arab monarchs of the Gulf and the suspicions about a sort of buying and selling of decorations, between opaque intertwining of d ' intermediation, favors, business interests.

Yet Carlo seems to have emerged from the darkest phases without major setbacks and at least with a certain reputation as a prince with contemporary sensibilities: not only for having finally normalized his divorce and made him accept the second marriage with his beloved Camilla, but also for the international public commitment in the defense of the environment, the attention to social issues and the purpose of rejuvenating and streamlining the royal house.

An image to be cemented now for a man who arrives in his seventies at his appointment with history, aware of having to surprise if he wants to win the only challenge that really matters for the survival of an institution like the monarchy: safeguarding tradition while keeping up with the times.

Just like Elizabeth II.

Camilla, queen consort

The British have for years considered it a family wrecker.

And her new title had been the subject of countless debates, before Elizabeth II, in February 2022, on the occasion of her 70th anniversary, expressed "the sincere desire" that Camilla be known "as queen consort".

Divorced, the mother of two children and the grandmother of five young adolescents, Camilla, 75, has slowly imposed herself.

Sponsor of dozens of associations, she has invested in topics dear to her such as reading, or violence against women: she tries to visit reception centers as often as possible during her travels abroad, she recently told Vogue.

Her popularity has increased, but she remains one of the least valued members of the royal family, with only 40% favorable opinion, according to a 2022 YouGov poll. Less than half of Britons wanted her to become queen last year.
