4 dead and 3 wounded in a random shooting in Memphis, USA

A young armed man killed at least four people and wounded three others in a random shooting across the American city of Memphis, yesterday, before the police arrested him in a chase.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly.

He was arrested with two weapons in his car around nine o'clock local time.

Memphis Police Chief Cereline Davis told a news conference that Kelly had been "arrested without any incident reported by the Memphis Police and Shelby County Sheriff's Office."

It is believed that Kelly killed his first victim shortly after midnight yesterday, before following that with random shootings in the city in the afternoon and evening, Davis said.

Police said they have identified at least eight crime scenes, including a carjacking and a shooting at a local store, adding that Kelly broadcast live clips of the random shooting.

Davis confirmed that "Ezequiel Kelly was on Facebook Live when the shooting inside the store."

Police told people to "take shelter where they are" while the shooting continued and parts of the city were effectively closed off.

The United States frequently witnesses shootings and other acts of gun violence.

But Congress has not approved tougher gun laws because of the political divide on the issue.
