His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, issued a federal decree for the year 2022, appointing Imran Anwar Al-Sayyid Muhammad Sharaf Al-Hashemi, as a member of the diplomatic and consular corps with the rank of ambassador, and assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Advanced Science and Technology Affairs.

Engineer Omran Sharaf took over the management of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, "Probe of Hope". He has been the Chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space since June 2022, and a former member of the UAE delegation to the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems.

He held many tasks and positions, as he held the Project Development Department at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, and led the technical team for electronic systems for the satellite projects “DubaiSat-1” and the satellite “DubaiSat-2”, as well as leading the department specialized in processing and analyzing satellite images at the Emirates Science Foundation and advanced technology during the period 2011-2014.

Eng. Omran won the UAE Pride Medal for his efforts in the UAE space program within the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Excellence in Governmental Performance. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 2005 from the University of Virginia in the United States of America, and he holds a Master’s degree in Science and Technology Policies in 2013 from Advanced Institute of Science and Technology of South Korea.
