Two police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) were targeted by gunfire in the south of Avignon (Vaucluse) on Tuesday.

According to BFM Marseille, a man on a scooter had refused to comply in the La Rocade district around 00:30.

A chase then started.

Two police officers from the BAC who were nearby had gone to the scene on a motorbike.

According to BFM Marseille, they saw the suspect before he escaped.

A detonation then sounded.

First thinking of a firecracker, the police then saw a man with a handgun, says France 3 Provence Alpes-Côte-d'Azur.

The suspect is said to have shot them again before fleeing.

The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Avignon, indicates BFM, according to which several shots were reported in this sector throughout the weekend.
