The police were alerted shortly before three o'clock on the night of Wednesday about two loud explosions in the Gränby district of Uppsala.

Once on site, the police found that some form of detonation had taken place at a property on Molngatan, which caused extensive damage to the building.

Bomb technicians are investigating

- We are working full-time on site right now and hearing witnesses, says police spokesperson Anders Holm.

According to the police, no one was injured.

- So far we do not know what exploded, but bomb technicians are on their way and will investigate what may have been used in the explosion.

Explosion for the second time

The house on Molngatan has previously already been exposed to an explosion in September 2020, then caused by a hand grenade, which SVT then reported on.

That explosion turned out to have links to an earlier shooting in the area.

A man in his 20s was arrested and detained as a suspect in the shooting.

Does the explosion last night have any connection to the hand grenade attack that took place in the same house in 2020?

- We don't know that at the moment, but the investigation will probably give an answer to that, says Anders Holm.
