women's water polo
team stops in the semifinals of the 35th European Championship, taking place in Split.
The
Setterosa
of coach Carlo Silipo, at the “Spaladium Arena” of the Croatian city,
surrendered to Greece
with a score of 12-9 (2-2; 4-2; 4-3; 2-2).
The
Azzurre
did not manage to beat the Hellenic formation which in several places appeared superior.
Italy suffered
particularly in the first part of the third quarter

Setterosa to score with

, author of a hat-trick on seven shots,

of a brace, then with
Domitilla Picozzi, Roberta Bianconi, Valeria Palmieri and Claudia Marletta.
Greece, for the
fourth time in a European final (never won gold), will face
Spain
for the continental title on Friday at 20.30
(it is the first time that the two nations face each other in the final) which in semifinal beat the
Netherlands
10-7 (3-2, 2-1, 1-2, 4-2) in a challenge that saw the Iberians, already
defeated by the Setterosa
in the first group stage, never go under in the score.
The Italians, on Friday at 7 pm, will face Holland
in the final for the bronze and they had already met in the consolation final, in 2010 in Zagreb, with the match that ended in favor of the "oranje".
From
1989 to 2016 the Setterosa always finished the European Championship in the first four positions
(in 2018 sixth and fifth in 2020).
Women's water polo has won bronze twice, in 1991 in Athens and in 2016 in Belgrade.
In between the golds of Vienna 1995, Seville 1997, Prato 1999, the silver of Budapest 2001, the gold of Ljubljana 2003, the silver of Belgrade 2006 and the gold of Eindhoven 2012.
