Météo-France had placed Gard and Hérault on red alert for thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon.

An alert raised at the end of the day.

However, 25 departments remain on orange alert for rain and flooding.

However, new thunderstorms can occur overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Absolute vigilance in Gard and Hérault was lifted by Météo-France on Tuesday evening.

These departments had been the subject of a red alert this Tuesday during the afternoon.

They are now placed on orange alert to storms and floods, like 25 other departments in the Center-East and North-East.

More "locally strong" thunderstorms

The storms shifted at sea, which no longer "justifies the maintenance of red vigilance" to storms in these two departments of Occitania, said Météo-France in its latest bulletin.

Some 150 to 180 mm of water were recorded "in less than three hours" on the south-east of Hérault and the south-west of Gard, indicated the meteorological institute.

No victims are to be deplored and the firefighters of Gard and Hérault did not carry out any significant intervention.

New thunderstorms can, however, occur overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, as well as during the day on Wednesday, and could be "locally strong, giving 50 to 80 mm in a short time", warned the organization.

Météo-France had placed Gard and Hérault on Tuesday afternoon in absolute vigilance, due to "stationary thunderstorms" and exceptional volumes of precipitation.

A cloudy sky

In the rest of the country, instability will still be marked in the west of the regions going from the Normandy coast to the Gironde estuary, with showers expected.

A thunderstorm may break out at times.

This instability will last for a good part of the day and the accumulation of precipitation could be marked in the areas exposed to the southwest wind blowing up to 70 km/h in gusts.

The sky will therefore be charged, dropping a few showers during the day.

Only the Var coast, the Côte d'Azur and Corsica will benefit from beautiful sunny periods.

At daybreak, the minimum temperatures will be between 13 and 16 degrees on the northern half of the country, between 16 and 19 on the southern half, up to 21 to 23 on the Mediterranean coast.

The maximum will reach 20 to 22 degrees in Brittany, 22 to 28 from the Opal Coast to the south of the country, up to 29 to 30 on the Mediterranean coast and in Corsica.
