6:51 am: IAEA report on the Zaporozhye power plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is due to report on Tuesday on the situation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, occupied by Russian forces, which has posed a radiological risk for months.

“On Tuesday, Rafael Grossi will publish a report on the situation in terms of safety, security and guarantees in Ukraine including in particular the findings of his mission to Zaporozhye and he will report to the UN Security Council on the mission carried out at the plant” , tweeted the IAEA on Monday evening, referring to its director general.

"I hope it will be objective", for his part advanced Volodymyr Zelensky Monday evening about this report.

6:44 am: The last reactor of the Zaporozhye power plant disconnected

The last reactor in operation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was disconnected from the network on Monday, said Ukrainian state operator Energoatom and the IAEA.

Since the disconnection of the power plant from the external network on Friday evening, “a backup line was used to deliver electricity to the network” Ukrainian, recalls the IAEA.

However, this line, connected to a neighboring thermal power station, “was deliberately disconnected in order to extinguish a fire”.

But "it was not damaged", and it should be reconnected as soon as possible.

According to the Ukrainian operator, the fire "started because of the bombardments".

Reactor number 6, the only one still operating among the six units of this plant, continues however "to produce the electricity necessary for the cooling" of the nuclear fuel and the security of the site, specifies the IAEA.

“He will be connected to the network again when the helpline is reactivated”.

6:32 a.m .: Zelensky counts on Liz Truss

The Ukrainian president welcomes the appointment of Liz Truss as the new British Prime Minister.

“I believe that together we will be able to do much more to protect our peoples and thwart all destructive efforts of Russia,” Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday during his evening video address, broadcast on social networks.

"The main thing is to preserve our unity, which is sure to happen."

Saying she was "looking forward" to future cooperation with Liz Truss, whose country is one of kyiv's main supporters in Europe, Zelensky said she "has always been on the right side of European politics".

Liz Truss' predecessor as British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was particularly popular in Kyiv because of his strong support for Russia.

Hello everyone !

Welcome to this new live dedicated to the war in Ukraine.

This Tuesday, it will once again be a question of nuclear power.

The report of the IAEA experts on the Zaporozhye power plant is indeed particularly awaited.

The site of Europe's largest nuclear power plant has been bombed several times, raising fears of a disaster.

For several weeks, Russians and Ukrainians have accused each other of these bombardments.
