  Shmegar said he had met with European Commission President von der Leyen and discussed economic aid for Kyiv and Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

Shmergar expressed confidence in completing some of the EU's proposals by the end of this year and starting negotiations on EU membership in late 2022-early 2023.

On July 23, the European Council decided to grant Ukraine candidate status for the EU.
