After two successive postponements, the 18th Francophonie summit will be held on the Tunisian island of Djerba.

The information confirmed on Tuesday by a source close to the organization.

"

There have been a lot of rumors and speculations

", as for a possible change of place, recognizes this source, but "

Tunisia continued to invest in the preparations, to advance in the works... The country has stayed the course

”.

According to our information, a delegation from the French-speaking world also arrived on Tuesday, September 6 in Djerba, to see these advances.

Two postponements

This 18th OIF summit has already been postponed twice.

The first, in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the

second in 2021

.

The member states of the organization then explained that they wanted to "

allow Tunisia

[...]

to organize this important body in the most optimal conditions

 ".

The country was at the time in the grip of demonstrations, to protest against the strengthening

of the powers of President Kaïs Saïed

and against, in particular, the extension of the freezing of the National Assembly.

Since then, Parliament has been dissolved and a new Constitution granting broad powers to the Head of State has been adopted.
