The UAE asked the “Netflix” platform to remove “content that violates the regulations in the country and contradicts societal values, especially content directed at children,” in conjunction with a similar request made by electronic media officials in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

According to a joint statement issued by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (Tdra) and the State's Media Regulatory Office, the necessary procedures will be applied in the event of broadcasting any material that contradicts the values ​​of society.

The statement stated: “Recently, it was noticed that the Netflix platform broadcast some visual materials and content that violates the controls of media content in the UAE and contradicts societal values ​​in the country,” adding: “It has been contacted with the (Netflix) platform to remove this content, especially directed to the category of Children, and the Communications Regulatory Authority and the Media Regulatory Office will follow up on what the platform broadcasts during the coming period, and the extent of its commitment to broadcasting controls in the UAE, and implement the necessary procedures in the event of broadcasting any material that contradicts the values ​​of society and does not comply with the laws and regulations in force in the country.

In addition, the Committee of Electronic Media Officials in the Cooperation Council States, headed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of the member states and the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, held a meeting, after which it issued a statement confirming communication with the “Netflix” platform to remove content that violates the controls of media content in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Which contradicts Islamic and societal values ​​and principles.

She stressed that if the infringing content continues to be broadcast, the necessary legal measures will be taken.
