Stadtwerke Offenbach ended the 2021 financial year with a consolidated net profit of EUR 5.36 million, after EUR 7.4 million in the previous year.

The effects of the corona pandemic have affected the four business areas of Stadtwerke differently - real estate, city services, mobility and events.

Real estate and city services were again able to show positive results, while in the mobility and events sectors there was a loss of income in 2021 due to the consequences of the pandemic.

The results of Stadtwerke Holding Offenbach GmbH also include the proportional assumption of losses for local public transport in the amount of 10.44 million euros and the dividends from associated companies such as Energieversorgung Offenbach.

All in all, around 8.6 million euros flowed from EVO AG to Stadtwerke-Holding.

This makes it the most lucrative investment.

2.27 million euros for the core business

The dividend from the participation in the respective regional energy supplier is not only considered in Offenbach, but also in Darmstadt, for example, as a reliable source of income, with the help of which the public transport, which is naturally in deficit, can be subsidised.

Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD), who is also chairman of the supervisory board of the holding company, described it as politically particularly important that the housing company GBO, which stands for the real estate division, does not transfer the surplus of 2.27 million euros to the holding company for general use, but the sum alone reserved for GBO's core business, namely building new apartments that are also affordable for lower-income sections of the population.

Site development in-house

As a further important function of the public utility company in Offenbach, Schwenke named the competences for the development of areas based there.

For example, the development of the former Clariant site into the innovation campus was not handed over to an external company, but rather the municipal project development company INNO Innovationscampus GmbH was given the expertise gained from the port development.

Despite the fact that the income situation in Offenbach's local public transport system has deteriorated significantly as a result of the corona pandemic, the city has continued to push the mobility division with a further 29 electric buses, including the necessary charging infrastructure.

This means that Offenbach has gradually replaced a total of 36 diesel buses with electric buses over the past two years.
