- It is positive and for the individual police it means increased security, says Marthin Gelbart, crime prevention coordinator in the Jönköping police area.

Södra Vätterbygden's local police area is first out here in Jönköping County in a week or so.

Later this autumn, the Värnamo and Höglandet local police areas will also receive body cameras.

Already in 2018, a pilot project started where police officers in the South and West regions were equipped with body cameras.

Since then, the project has gradually increased around the country and now this autumn, the idea is that all police officers working in external service should have this opportunity.

More camera surveillance

The goal is for the police in Sweden to develop their technical ability and from 2022, the authority has been given 400 million kroner per year and also an extra grant of 300 million kroner just for this year.

In addition to more body-worn cameras, more fixed cameras in places prone to crime must also be set up in Jönköping County.

In the clip above, Marthin Gelbart explains how the body cameras can lead to increased security both for individual police officers and those who are arrested.
