The Marine Corps Command announced that the 1st Division of the 1st Marine Division in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, has deployed two Korean-style amphibious assault vehicles (KAAVs) and three rubber boats (IBS) to the civilian rescue operation from 6:30 am today (6th).

Currently, KAAV is carrying out rescue operations around Cheongrim Elementary School with operating troops and rescue personnel from the Southern Fire Department in Pohang, and is searching for people who are isolated and in need of rescue.

A rescue video released by the Marines shows crews loading civilians into KAAVs on a road that has risen to the waist.

The Marine Corps Command said that the rapid task force will perform its mission by conducting civilian damage recovery operations anywhere in case of emergency.

Due to the 11th typhoon 'Hinnamno', heavy rain of around 100mm per hour fell in Pohang today, flooding the downtown area.
