Predictable jump in the price of gas on the Amsterdam market after the stop at Nord Stream - announced on Friday after markets closed - decided by Gazprom due to alleged technical problems.

After the surge to 275 euros per megawatt hour at the start of trading, Ttf futures - a reference point for gas in Europe - currently stand at 282 euros per megawatt hour, up 31.5% compared to 215 euros / mwh of the closing on Friday 2 September, getting closer and closer to the daily maximum of 290 euros.

Meanwhile, the euro this morning touched an all-time low in the exchange rate with the US dollar, falling below the level of 0.99.

The European currency lost 0.70% to 0.9884 against the US currency on the markets this morning at 05.35 GMT (7.35 am Italian), the lowest level since December 2002.

The slow fall of the euro against the dollar has continued since the beginning of the year, weighed down by the economic uncertainty triggered after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The euro subsequently re-grabbed 0.99 against the dollar, after adjusting the lows since 2002 to 0.98: the single currency is now trading with the greenback at 0.991.
