It has been 50 years since the terrorist act during the Munich Olympics, when eight attackers from the Palestinian terrorist organization Black September broke into the Olympic village and took 11 people from the Israeli team hostage.

In the documentary "World History: Munich 1972", two of the assailants themselves tell about the act.

It is the first time the men tell their story in front of the camera, according to the documentary's creators.

The documentary also features relatives of the victims, members of Israel's former Olympic squad, police officers, politicians and more.

Lived in the hidden

Germany has received a lot of criticism for its actions during the terrorist attack and for the release of the attackers.

Both men have lived with different security arrangements since then and participate in the documentary from an undisclosed location.

- Germany capitulated, they gave in.

It was, of course, not popular in Israel, says Meron Medzini, who was the Israeli government's press spokesman from 1962 to 1978.

Israel's prime minister at the time, Golda Meir, condemned the act and promised that those responsible would be held accountable.

"Can't heal all wounds"

Just days before the 50th anniversary of the act, Germany has announced that they will pay out close to 300 million kroner in compensation to the families who suffered in the terrorist attack.

The country must also lift the secrecy surrounding the attack, TT reports.

"The agreement cannot heal all wounds.

But it opens a door to each other.”

said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Israeli President Isaac Herzog in a joint statement.
