The main associations of elected officials, who doubted that the National Council for Refoundation (CNR) was "the appropriate format" for dialogue with communities, will finally participate in its launch on Thursday after having obtained regular meetings with Emmanuel Macron, have- they told AFP.

“We will go because we have obtained regular working meetings with the President of the Republic to discuss the specific problems that we encounter in the exercise of our powers”, explained François Sauvadet, the president of the Assembly of departments. de France (AdF), after a meeting at the Elysée with Emmanuel Macron.

Meetings “at least twice a year”

"We have agreed that we have working meetings with the President of the Republic twice a year to ensure that the responses given to our fellow citizens are faster and more appropriate," added Carole Delga, the President of Regions of France, who also took part in the meeting, as well as David Lisnard, President of the Association of Mayors of France.

“We share the urgency to act against inequalities and global warming,” she added.

“We must therefore have more power locally and the president shared this observation,” she underlined.

Emmanuel Macron "expressed to us his desire to have a new era of dialogue with local authorities", assured Carole Delga.

"We agreed to see each other at least twice a year, or even more," explained Mr. Sauvadet, specifying that the next meeting would be "linked to decentralization."

The Association of Rural Mayors will participate in the launch

After a first five-year term marked by tensions between the Elysée and the main associations of elected officials, all three in the hands of the opposition, these regular meetings with the Head of State make it possible to "start a new cycle of discussion" , welcomed the president of the AdF.

Mr. Lisnard, Ms. Delga and Mr. Sauvadet went to the Elysée under the banner of “United Territories”, an organization that brings together their three associations.

For its part, the Association of Rural Mayors (AMRF), which did not participate in the meeting, also told AFP that it would participate in the launch of the CNR, with the presence of its vice-president Yvan Lubraneski.
