revealed this Friday that she was diagnosed with

Hodgkin's disease

, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, but she will not stop her environmental activism.

"This is a very treatable cancer, 80% of people survive so I feel very lucky," the 85-year-old artist wrote in a post on

Instagram

Fonda explained that she has already started chemotherapy, a treatment she will receive for six months, but warned that she will not put aside her activism.

"Trust me,

I'm not going to let any of this get in the way of my environmental activism

," said Fonda, who claimed that fossil fuels and pesticides cause cancer.

"Cancer is a teacher and I am paying attention to the lessons it will teach me," the actress wrote on the social network.

The actress also considered herself "privileged" because she has health insurance, unlike many Americans who have to deal with cancer without receiving the necessary medical attention, she lamented.
