Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson writes, in a text message via his press secretary, that he has spoken with SD leader Jimmie Åkesson, KD's Ebba Busch and the Liberals' Johan Pehrson and that they are in agreement.

"If we win the election and Sweden gets a new government, we will ensure that the high-cost protection for households and businesses against the extreme electricity prices is in place on November 1.

Household finances must be saved in good time before Christmas.

It is a joint election promise.”

But the agreement seems largely to consist of M, KD, SD and L agreeing that the high-cost protection should be in place on November 1.

In order for that to be possible, the four want Svenska kraftnät to speed up the task the authority has already been given by the government to develop a model for high-cost protection.

In principle, M stands behind the government's proposal, the party made a similar proposal before the government came up with its own.

L releases requirements

The agreement between M, KD, SD and L means that the Liberals for the time being drop their demands for reduced taxes in the electricity area.

- We support Ulf in this, because we see that this needs to be dealt with urgently.

The message is that we support the Moderates' proposal, says L leader Johan Pehrson.

But the four parties have not negotiated any details, such as exact funding and design.

- We also do not want to pre-empt the work that is now underway at EU level, says Johan Pehrson.

Christian Democrat party leader Ebba Busch says at a press conference:

- What we have agreed on is that we will introduce high-cost protection, otherwise we have not negotiated.

Own KD proposal

KD presents its own proposal, which is said to be almost 150 billion for four months.

It is to be paid through bottleneck fees piled up at Svenska kraftnät, an additional tax of 40 billion on electricity companies and reduced VAT of 49 billion.

It may seem like a bold promise that the high-cost cover will be in place by early November.

The time between the election, government negotiations and government formation and proposals that make it possible will be very short.

That will be the time also for an S-led government that has so far only talked about the protection being introduced this winter.
