Announced after the election of Emmanuel Macron this year, the National Council for Refoundation does not reach a consensus and is boycotted on the right and on the left.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne deplores that the opposition "refuse the discussion even before it has started", a situation which she considers "paradoxical".

Elisabeth Borne deplored Thursday that the opposition parties "refuse the discussion even before it has started" by boycotting the National Council for Refoundation, supposed to bring together associations, unions and parties and which must be installed on September 8.

"I wonder. In the current period where we are facing considerable challenges (...) is it natural to refuse the discussion before it has even started? “, asked on France Inter the Prime Minister.

"I find it a bit paradoxical to refuse discussion. It is important that we can share diagnoses, discuss objectives," she added.

The head of government reiterated that "the door would remain open" to opposition parties who would ultimately like to participate in the CNR.

Edouard Philippe absent

Within the majority, former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, mayor of Le Havre and president of the Horizons movement, will also not be present next Thursday at the launch of the CNR, we learned from his entourage, confirming information from RMC and franceinfo.

Held in Quebec at the Congress of UNESCO World Heritage Cities, of which Le Havre is a part, it will however be represented by the mayor of Albi Stéphanie Guiraud Chaumeil.

Emmanuel Macron announced shortly before the legislative elections the creation of the CNR, supposed to bring together political actors, unions, associations and citizens around some major themes of long-term reform.

But the opposition parties do not wish to participate in the opening session by the Head of State scheduled for September 8 in Marcoussis (Essonne), seeing it as a "confusion" of roles and a circumvention of Parliament.

The High Commission for Planning entrusted to François Bayrou will ensure the general secretariat of the CNR, indicated the president of the MoDem to AFP, confirming information from L'Opinion.

"I have always defended this idea according to which we must find areas of consensus to advance a certain number of diagnoses which never advance", explained François Bayrou, saying he was "ready to help by all means to guarantee the good performance of this approach and so that no one feels instrumentalised".
