She wants to start her public work on September 27th - the day on which Kohl won a constructive vote of no confidence against his predecessor Helmut Schmidt in the Bundestag in Bonn 40 years ago.

The foundation was brought into being by parliament more than a year ago with an establishment law. It aims to commemorate Kohl's chancellorship with a permanent exhibition, scientific commissions and publications.

Similar foundations exist in memory of Konrad Adenauer (based in his house in Rhöndorf), Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt.

The managing director of the foundation, Jacqueline Boysen, stated that, like the other "Kanzler" foundations, the organization has an annual budget of almost three million euros.

So far, five employees have been employed, and the staff will continue to grow.

The foundation wants to move into a temporary home on Berlin's Wilhelmstraße and, after renovation, settle on the ground floor of a parliament building on Unter den Linden, in the vicinity of the Willy Brandt Foundation, whose premises are also under construction there.

The current CDU chairman Friedrich Merz and former Chancellor Angela Merkel will speak at the opening ceremony of the foundation at the end of September.

On this date, the results of a study are to be presented that provide information on how Helmut Kohl is currently present in the minds of Germans.

The former Union faction leader Volker Kauder, who chairs the board of trustees of the foundation, said in Berlin that the foundation wanted to keep Kohl's political achievements in view of German unity and European unification;

she also wanted to show that "personal relationships in politics can sometimes be more successful" than substantive agreements.

Dealing with Kohl's secret party donations will not be the focus of the foundation's work, it is not about Kohl's role as party leader, but about his work as chancellor.

Kauder also stated that, despite the efforts of the foundation, there was no cooperation with Kohl's widow Maike Kohl-Richter;

there is a certain cooperation with his two sons.

Although the personal archive of the former chancellor is not available to the foundation for research purposes, the board of the foundation is confident that the organization can also encourage and support scientific work on Kohl.

For example, the creation of a file register is planned that can provide information about where in Germany and at international locations stocks that can provide information about Kohl's politics are stored.
