• Transport Discounts on the season ticket: how much will it cost me in September?

The month of September in the Community of Madrid is going to be marked by

changes in mobility

motivated by the 50% reduction in transport passes, the free use of the entire Cercanías network and the possibility of traveling free of charge on buses from the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of the capital on days 1, 7 and 8, coinciding with the return to school.

Mobility has been one of the

priority axes of the central government's plan

to alleviate the effects that the energy crisis derived from the Ukraine War and runaway inflation is having on the day-to-day life of the Spanish.

Thus, the package of measures includes the free commuter network, as well as a

50% discount on high-speed multi-trip tickets.

In order to take advantage of this zero cost of rail services, the new free subscription was enabled on August 24, valid from September 1 and until the end of the year.

Since last August 8, users can register on the Renfe and Renfe Cercanías website and applications to prepare the procedures for August 24.

Users who normally use Renfe tools will already have this step done, since it is about registering the data.

FREE COMMUTER

For the purchase of the subscription, it is necessary to deposit a deposit.

In the case of Cercanías, the deposit to be paid when purchasing the

season ticket will be 10 euros

, preferably by means of a bank card, so that the refund is automatically returned to that card, as long as the user has made

a minimum of 16 trips.

In case of not complying with the stipulated minimum number of trips,

the deposit will be considered compensation

and will not be returned to the user.

In the event that the deposit is deposited in cash, the return of the deposit must be requested at the ticket offices, customer service offices or at any other after-sales service authorized for this purpose by Renfe.

To issue the subscription, the user's ID and/or mobile phone will be recorded.

A large family discount may be applied to the amount of the deposit if this condition is met.

REDUCTION OF TRANSPORT TICKETS

In addition to the free commuter service, the reduction of transport passes has also been promoted by 50% - 30% initially expandable by the autonomies by 20% more - which comes into force on September 1.

Thus, from September 1, the payment of

Crown A

will cost

27.30 euros

compared to the rate of 54.60 euros per month without these discounts.

Ordinary passes will thus range from 27.30 euros in zone A to

41 euros in zone B3 - C1/C2

on the 30-day public transport tickets currently in force.

In zone B1, the subscription rate will go from 63.7 euros to

31.8 euros per month

as of September;

Season tickets for zone B2 will go from the current 72 euros per month to

36 euros per month

from September;

and in zone B3 - C1/C2 they will go from 82 euros to

41 euros per month

, with a 50% reduction on the current rate.

Finally, the youth pass will go from 20 to

10 euros

and that of the elderly will stand at

1.60 euros,

according to the current price table in force set by the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium.

EMT FREE

The Madrid City Council has also made a move towards the return of summer and back to school by establishing free bus service on September

1, 7 and 8

.

The gratuity will not be limited to rush hour "like last year", but will be

throughout the day

, as detailed by the Environment and Mobility delegate, Borja Carabante.

In addition, it has advanced that this measure will be adopted again, predictably during Christmas or on

Black Friday

, as happened last year.
