“That this Mickey Mantle card has remained in this condition for seventy years is a true miracle.

The previous owner purchased the card in 1991 for $50,000.

He then hid and kept it for over thirty years before giving it to Heritage Auctions to sell.

“We always knew this card would shatter records and expectations,” the auction house said.

Known to all baseball fans, American Mickey Mantle played for the New York Yankees for seventeen years.

He died in 1995. His card outsold the jersey worn by Diego Maradona when he scored his 'hand of God' goal at the 1986 World Cup.
