The United Nations mission in Iraq said that today's developments are a "very dangerous escalation", calling on all political forces in the country to work to reduce the escalation and resort to dialogue to resolve differences.

Today, Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that "the only way to overcome the circumstances in Iraq is through dialogue and relying on the Iraqi constitution." The spokesman added that the Iraqis have "the experience and legal tools to overcome the current circumstances."

Hours after the Sadrist demonstrators stormed sovereign institutions in the Green Zone in Baghdad, the security forces were able to disperse them and regain control of the situation.

Reuters reported that the clashes between security forces and demonstrators resulted in the death of two people and the injury of 19 others.
