The National Legislative Council has said that further discussion is necessary regarding the handling of ``parental authority'' for children after their parents have divorced. .

Last month, a subcommittee of the National Legislative Council presented an interim draft proposal that includes a review of the system regarding the handling of "parental authority," which is the authority to decide important matters such as where children live and property management.

Among them, a plan to choose "joint custody" where both parents have custody after the parents divorce, or the current "single custody" in which one of the parents has custody, and a plan to maintain "single custody" were written together. .

The Legislative Council subcommittee was scheduled to compile an interim draft on the 30th based on this, but at the Liberal Democratic Party's legal subcommittee last week, it was pointed out that the party's opinion on "joint custody" was not reflected. , It is expected to be postponed as further discussion is necessary.

Regarding "joint custody", there is an opinion that it is natural for both parents to take responsibility for raising children even after divorce, and while there is an opinion calling for the introduction, children who escape from abuse and DV (domestic violence) are protected. There are also those who are cautious about introducing it, as there is a risk that it may not be possible.
