It was on May 24 this year that a man in his 50s died after an infectious accident south of Åtvidaberg.

The man is said to have been traveling on roller skis along county road 134 outside Åtvidaberg towards Kisa when he was hit by a gray car that left the scene.

The man who was hit was from eastern Östergötland and died at the scene.

Charged with five counts

According to the lawsuit, the man who is now charged with five counts left the scene of the accident without either trying to help the man who was hit or alerting the emergency services.

According to the indictment, the man was also under the influence of alcohol and was about to hit another person after the initial accident

Arrested in Tranås

Two days after the fatal accident, the police were alerted to an address in Tranås where the suspect was in the process of leaving the scene while driving drunk.

The car the suspect was driving showed damage consistent with the car believed to have been involved in the accident two days earlier. The 77-year-old man was arrested and later placed in restricted custody on May 27.
