Police in Houston, Texas, said on the 28th that a man set fire to an apartment building in Houston that day and shot people who escaped from it, killing three people and injuring two others.

The gunman was shot dead by police who arrived later.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner told a news conference that the victim was a male between the ages of 40 and 60 and the shooter was about 40 years old.

Firefighters first rushed to the scene to put out the fire, Fenner said, but retreated when the gunman opened fire.

Police arrived shortly after and briefly exchanged fire with the suspect and shot him dead.

Based on local media reports, investigators believe the gunman may be a former tenant of the apartment building who was evicted and took retaliatory action out of dissatisfaction.
