The increased electricity prices hit farmers hard, including chicken producers and greenhouse growers where ventilation and lighting are required.

Per Brunberg, who runs milk production in Johannishus, is today grateful that he made several changes on the farm to reduce electricity costs.

He has a biogas plant that produces electricity for lighting and is used to cool the milk from the cows.

- We noticed that electricity prices were skyrocketing in society and this with a biogas plant seemed extremely interesting because then we would become independent and have our own electricity, says Per Brunberg.

More actions

Looking ahead, there is some concern about the increasing costs.

But Per has thoughts of more possible measures.

- What we dream of now is that the biogas plant could be taken one step further, for example powering our tractors, he says.
